It's all about Brunch

ahhhh Brunch, the best meal of the day.

I have great hopes that this 11-12 o clock beauty will supersede dinner as the best loved and most looked forward to culinary event of the day. Brunch spans the realm of sweet and savoury; soft doughy breads, rich runny yolks, crisp and salty meats, crunchy fresh…

Tonight - 25 May, Holland Park (LONDON!) - Summer of Love Dinner Concert!

We still have a few seats for tonight's dinner and concert. The last one was way over sold as we had two American musicians touring here and a Brit. Tonight we have one of each; fabulous performers.

And the theme is 1967, Summer of Love, complete with face painting and sitting around in the garden on colorful cushions. If you haven't been here before, tonight will give you a lovely taster of food, music and beautiful strangers.1

Mama Lan's next dinner - 25th June - Food from Beijing's Cow Street

Hi Guys,

I’ve finally got around to organising our next Mama Lan dinner which will be on the 25th June.  This time we’ll be cooking dishes from ‘Cow Street’ in Beijing.

Cow street is an amazing market street in West Beijing specialising in Muslim snacks.  The most famous being sesame lamb buns, which all Beijingers (Muslim or not) queue up for at lunch time!

See the events page for full details for full details of the…

My partnership with Maille

I’m excited to tell you that I’m now the official ambassador for the Maille Supper Club campaign. The maker of my favourite French Dijon mustard, Maille shares my passion for great food and inspired cooking. For the next few months I’m going to be helping them out to encourage Brits to get more involved with the Supper Club movement and perhaps even have a go at hosting one.

As their ambassador, I will be holding a special Maille Bastille Day…

1001 arabian bites

So sorry about the pun, I couldn’t resist. Anyway... I’ve got my second secret supper coming up next week. My mind is occupied with thoughts of recipes. While I do not want a theme as such, I am looking to the middle east for influence. The heat of cumin and coriander…

Promoting Find a Supper Club, become a fan

I mentioned our group on Woman's Hour. This brought in hundreds of new members.

Visit London blog has also mentioned this group...for Olympic dates which I'm sure you will all be thinking about for next year. A fantastic opportunity to show off the best of British home cooking to visitors, welcome them into our homes, make new friends and hopefully some profit!…

Five things every aspiring supper club host should know

Yes, I’m new to the supper club scene but it has been a baptism of fire. I’ve picked up a few tips along the way that will help anyone thinking of turning their living room into a restaurant.

1. There is no such thing as a ‘soft launch’ when it comes to supper clubs.

I had nice ideas about trying out my… Continue

Saturday 28th May 2011 Scottish Borders (30 mins from Edinburgh) A Classic Feast

The 3rd Supper club  menu includes all the French classics this time which is great fun to research and produce . Moules Mariniere with lots of bread to soak up the sauce, Coq Au VIn, Pan Fried Sea Bass fillets with Beurre Marnie ( a  challenge for any cook  if more than 15 guests  being served at the same time) and big platters of green vegetables and new potatoes. To finish… Continue

Chinese hand rolled noodles vs Italian pasta and a french chocolate tart...

Thankfully the weather last Saturday held up so we were able to serve my mum’s Beijing hand rolled noodles with cold aubergine and tomato topping.  It seemed to go down a treat in the hot weather as did the watermelon and cucumber mocktail served on the night.

As you guys know, we always demonstrate how to make the main dish of the evening and invite our guests to have a go.  As techniques go, rolling out dough may seem harmless enough but it was perhaps the most difficult…
