Eating food is more than pure nutrition. It’s an expression of culture, with rituals of preparation and eating together. Through eating we interact most intimately with our surroundings - we absorb them.
A culinary airlift is created and parallel dinners are taking place. You eat and someone in Pakistan is eating with you.
What kind of people live in Pakistan? People that pose with Kalashnikovs or are being hit by devastating floods?
Aren’t they all terrorists? Let’s eat a delicious Pakistani meal. And every time someone eats at Zagreus, someone in Pakistan eats too.
I went to Pakistan and visited 45 families. A culinary journey into a country that is so different from the one we see on the news.
I sat on sofas or directly on the floor and drank a lot of tea. I looked into cooking pots and stoves and collected addresses.
Every night when there is a dinner at Zagreus Berlin, one of these families gets a parcel with the identical ingredients down to the last grain and exact instructions how to prepare the individual courses. Today it’s you.
This is not charity but a symbolic act of eating together.
