OK, thanks! I will keep you updated- just have to somehow find a way to sell the idea to my friends...:-) I don't want to make it completely open yet, already for the reason that it is more illegal here. (Also my place is not very big, euphemistically spoken). however, some people might think its strange that they have to pay now, so I dont know really how to put it yet...(nobody here has heard of it yet it seems)
But yes, I have a lot of ideas, so I guess I will soon just give it a try and promise to keep everybody informed.
Akiko: Do keep me up to date if any start in Geneva...Le temps just reported on London supperclubs like me. I'm sure it will spread all over Europe soon.
To find out more about how Horton and I started the movement read my blog: marmitelover.blogspot.com starting from January '09 when we started...
Oh I just saw you actually have your own supperclub!!! Excellent! As I said I was thinking abiout opening myself one in Geneva.
Before I heard about the whole concept I had started something similar by myself here in Geneva- well, something like a cooking club with friends, the hosts advertise places on the friend list and menu and price. Unfortunately it didnt really get off the ground yet, because people I know are not so much into cooking as I am and I fear I have frightened them off with my 8 course dinners..:-). Which is a pity because I just love cooking, but am absolutely happy with a small dinner too. But well- until now it was just me hosting...However, people always liked it and, coming across this whole movement made me think about "selling" the idea more this way here. If it is under an existing concept, then it might feel less awkward to ask for financial contributions. Unfortunately it is just not affordable to invite do many people for huge dinners.
So, may I ask how you went about and started this whole thing? How many tables do you have and how did you first bring the idea across?
Yes I am, actually- I didnt know that one!
Yes so there are a number of good to excellent places;
among my favourites, not all of them top super exclusive but some are just very nice: St.Jean(very nice french-Suisse), Bistrot de Boucher (very nice meat dishes, steak), Chausse Coq(extremely heart warming little thing with one elderly man serving good homemade stuff), some very good Japaense ones, for example an original yxakitori bar, the Sumo, some excellent fondue places of course, like Au vieux Carouge.. Unfortunately , as a PhD student, I have limited financial means, so I could not really go to all the places I wanted yet. However, from reliable sources I have heard about the following places: Dix Vins, cafe de bains, roberto, and several michelin stars in the hotels.
How is that bistro?
are you in GVA then? People keep asking me for restaurant recommendations down there! What are your favorites? I love the Bistro at La Chaumiere in Troinex, but they must be some fun/tasty restos in the centre!
would love to see the answer as I'm there quite frequently and may eventually relocate! I did see an article in the Swiss press www.letemps.ch earlier this year but I don't think it mentioned any active ones there...
