Evening Standard - March 2011
Love a Locavore made two New Year’s resolutions for 2011 to
A) better late than never, make some time to watch Hugh’s Fish Fight
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/hughs-fish-fight/4od
B) cook more with fish
Have completed resolution A, I was quite shocked by the documentary laying bare for all to see, the ridiculously crazy rules set by The Common Fisheries Policy who are the political framework for the fish quota system which is currently in place in the UK.
For any of my Locavore’s who have not watched Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s 3 part series, Fish Fight, I sincerely recommend you do to see what has been going on in our seas for the past decade and how much appalling wastage of perfectly good fish there has been, and continues to be, due to these ridiculously organised fishing quotas . Thankfully the policy is being reformed for 2012 but should not have been allowed operate in its current format in the first place.
Also, if you have not already – add to the 662, 173 people who have signed his petition - http://www.fishfight.net/
