Hi guys,
Really excited to announce we are celebrating one of my favorite Chinese festivals , the Mid Autumn Festival, in our next dinner on November 6th.
Why is it one of my favorites? The sweet moon cakes of course!
The Mid-Autumn Festival dates back more than 2000 years, where in feudal times, Chinese emperors would pray to the Heavens (symbolized by the full moon) for a prosperous and peaceful year. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month by the Chinese calendar – when the moon is at its fullest.
Traditionally, to celebrate the Mid Autumn Festival, we gift sweet moon cakes to family and friends as an expression of our best wishes for the future. This popular tradition, began during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127AD -1279 AD) and is still practiced today.
In keeping with tradition, we will be making our very own moon cakes for our next Mama Lan dinner.
