Meeting the Roux’s
Well known chefs the Roux’s came to Shipbourne in October and a charity meal was held at The Chaser Inn, in aid of St Giles Church. The menu was based on produce from Shipbourne Farmers’ Market. The evening was a great success and everyone had a fantastic time. Photo albums can be found on The Fat Carrot & Shipbourne Farmers’ Market facebook pages.
Taste of Kent Awards
Voting is now open for the Taste of Kent awards you can vote for your favourite farmers market here: www.tasteofkentawards.co.uk/
Charity
Unfortunately our fund raising efforts for breast cancer care on Pink Sunday at Tonbridge Farmers’ Market were a bit of a wash out! The producers and organizers made a great effort and there were many and varied bright pink outfits and even a pink poodle but it rained the entire morning making footfall for this market the lowest I have ever seen. The Fat Carrot would still like to raise some money for the charity and if anyone has any ideas for how we could do so please get in touch.
We are pleased to report though that Santander Tunbridge Wells branch raised over £40 for CLIC Sargent by selling our spooky cakes for Halloween.
This month we will be at Offham, Spadework Farmers’ Market and 10% of the producers take goes to the charity so the more you spend the more the charity earns! You can of course also come to our Festive Meal which will be helping to raise money for this Kent charity.
In November we will be at the Hospice in The Weald Christmas Fair which is a great event and we hope will be well supported.
Catering
If you have an event coming up and would like to relax and enjoy it and not have to make the food then we can help. We can provide the whole meal, just the veggie options or a buffet selection. Even a picnic if you are brave enough in this weather!
Closure of Horsmonden Farmers’ Market
Sadly Horsmonden Farmers’ Market will be closing after Dec 6th. Despite the best efforts of the current market management team the support for this market has dwindled. One of the big producers that attended this market (and several other markets) has also ceased trading. Local facilities do need local support – in essence ‘use it or lose it’. Remember £1.00 spent with local producers is worth £1.76 to the local economy but only £0.36 if it is spent with a supermarket. If all Kent families aim to spend 10% of their weekly shop locally the local economy would benefit vastly.
Best Wishes
