The first Taste Mauritius Supperclub of the year starts with a celebration meal of how Mauritians bring in the New Year festivities. In traditional fervour people remain in a festive mood, enjoying themselves with family and friends around tables full of food, specialities or at the beaches. It's Summer over there so trips to the beach and BBQ's over Christmas are popular.
The first day of the year people sometimes go vegetarian with the 2nd or 3rd days goat curry or meat is cooked and coconut water is drank to ease hangovers!
We start off our supperclub with Mauritian street food starters, this is followed by our star of the show a Mauritian Goat Curry (actually a family recipe) plus more distinctive dishes from the Island, heavily influenced from Franco-Mauritian, Chinese (popular New Year dishes), Indian and Creole. Finishing off with tropical desserts and a warming cup of Bois Cheri Vanilla Tea Chai.
