I recently received an email from a TV company offering to do a piece on Sky TV on The Underground Restaurant. The sting was in the tail: they charge you, anything from £300 to £1,500.
I don't think this is kosher.
I've done a bit of TV and while they don't pay you (which is kind of a drag when it's taken up days of your time, and TV cameras and lights bother your guests, make it really hard to be efficient as a cook and host at the same time as being filmed) but you sure as hell… Continue

I had this last year, it cost about 90 pounds. This means that if one of your guests drops dead from poisoning, falls over drunk and splits open their head on your marble table, you have insurance to cover it.
You can also get equipment insurance, legal cover and ....here's the sticky bit: cover for your staff.
Your 'staff' whether volunteers or paid employees need cover if they drop a hot bowl of soup on a guest, if they injure themselves.
This becomes quite… Continue

As you may have seen Ning is going to start charging to have this network. I haven't yet found a better network and in line with my policy of encouraging others I'm willing to pay the fee. I will consider whether or not to charge supperclubs a nominal amount in the future.
Since January 2009 when I started, as the pioneer in terms of reporting, documenting and starting my own supperclubs, I have worked hard not just to promote what I do, but to bring the movement along as a… Continue

Hi I'm writing a cookery book based on The Underground Restaurant. I'm going to be featuring other supperclubs.
As I don't cook meat I was wondering if other regular supperclubs would like to submit meat recipes. There is no payment but if your recipe is used, then you will get exposure. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Amounts are for 4, in grammes, give oven temps ect.
Put ingredients in order of use, then the… Continue

I've put up a photo...an ironing board covered with dishes...as I think it represents nicely what we are doing... I'd like to use the restaurant tube logo that Jonathan Brown designed for me...but it would cause problems with London Underground, so please don't use that logo.
I've also put a link to this site. Every weekend and before I try to tweet and encourage tweeters to look at this site to book for a supperclub.
You guys who are hosts can also do… Continue

I've received an email from an outfit called http://www.undergroundrestaurants.co.uk/
More than a year ago i bought up the domain names: theundergroundrestaurant.com and theundergroundrestaurant.co.uk. Of course at that time I didn't realise that it would be so successful and that underground restaurant would become the generic name for supperclubs. Previously it was a term used sometimes in the US but the term… Continue

This account has a good amount of followers and I'd appreciate it everybody could do their bit to make it lively and interesting and of course sell your events via this account.
Message me for password. I don't want to put it out publicly cos of the spam probs.

I'm having to approve new members as the spate of spamming members is ridiculous at the moment.Unless there are some members who do actually need help with their sexual performance. I also suspended another rival site. The only reason they are joining is to get everybody's contacts. They are not, as far as i can see, part of the community, that is, supperclub hosts. I put my entire list of contacts on this group in order to get it going and I'm sure other people have also done that (if not… Continue

As people may have seen we were hit by a spate of spamming on Friday and Saturday which is deeply weird considering I'd just written a blog post about it.
Anyway I've removed their posts and now am approving each member individually rather than it being an open group as before.
I've started a twitter account @supperclubgroup which already has 53 followers. I don't have time to keep it up regularly therefore invite supperclub hosts to tweet on that account about their events and… Continue

I've put an announcement on my facebook group and sent out an email to my mailing list. I hope others can do the same.
I'm giving a talk at Covent garden market this Thursday at 6.30 at The Hub in the piazza about how to set up your own underground restaurant. Feel free to attend.
There will be G & T's.
I'm also doing a stall that day as part of The London Restaurant Festival.
